Spanish Document Attestation for UAE
If you need to use a Spanish document in the UAE, it must go through a detailed attestation process. Although Spain is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention (since September 25, 1978), an apostille alone is not valid for use in the UAE, as it is not a member of the convention.
For a Spanish document to be legally recognized in the UAE, it must be verified, legalized, and attested by multiple authorities. Additionally, documents in Spanish must be translated into English or Arabic as per UAE requirements.
Attestation Process for Spanish Documents:
1. Notarization or Ministry of Education Verification
- Educational Certificates (Degrees, Diplomas, Transcripts)
- Other documents are notarized by a certified Notary Public.
2. Authentication by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Spain verifies the document.
- An apostille may be issued but is not sufficient for UAE use.
3. Legalization by the UAE Embassy in Spain
- The UAE Embassy in Madrid authenticates the document for use in the UAE.
4. Final Attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA)
- Once in the UAE, the document undergoes final attestation to be legally accepted.
5. Translation (If Required)
- Documents in Spanish must be translated into English or Arabic.
